About This Service
Concrete Work in San Diego
Concrete that fails cracks because of one of three reasons: insufficient thickness, missing or undersized rebar, or improper curing. SOL Design & Build does concrete the right way on every project — correct thickness for the application, properly spaced rebar, and control joints cut where they belong so any movement happens where you want it, not across the middle of your driveway.

Questions
Concrete Work FAQs
How thick should a concrete driveway be in San Diego?+
A residential driveway should be a minimum of 4 inches thick, with 5–6 inches recommended for SUVs or trucks. Light vehicle driveways can be 4 inches with wire mesh. We assess the specific application before every pour.
Do I need a permit for a concrete driveway in San Diego?+
Driveway approach permits are often required where the driveway meets the public sidewalk or street. Backyard patios typically don't require permits. SOL determines requirements at the site visit.
How long does concrete take to cure?+
Concrete reaches 70% strength in 7 days and full strength at 28 days. We apply curing compound on every pour and advise clients to avoid heavy traffic for the first week.
What's the difference between broom finish and exposed aggregate?+
Broom finish is a standard textured surface — economical and slip-resistant. Exposed aggregate reveals the stone in the mix for a decorative look that's also slip-resistant. Stamped concrete mimics pavers or stone but requires more maintenance long-term.
